USP Verification Program for TCM and Healthfoods: A Path to Export to the USA
A Special Seminar by Dr. V Srini Srinivasan, Vice President, U.S. Pharmacopoeia

The lack of standards and authoritative verifications of product quality have been hampering the export of Asian TCM and healthfood to advanced countries. To address this situation, the US Pharmacopoeia is currently putting together a new Verification Program for TCM and healthfoods based on the dietary supplement Verification Program for products and their manufacturers' facilities, which was launched during 2002 in the United States.

This new program will be open to all manufacturers of TCM, healthfoods and ingredients around the globe. So far, two Chinese manufacturers have already participated in the U.S.P. Verification Program. USP's hope is to widen this Program to meet the needs of the international market which is becoming more and more integrated every day.
