Pengzhou, located at the Northwest part to Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, is 25 kilometers from the provincial capital, having the population of 780,000 and occupying 1420 square kilometers. Situated between 103º10’E and 103º40’E, 30º54’N and 31º26’N, which is considered the mysterious belt of 30ºE, Pengzhou has the typical subtropical humid climate, with distinct seasons and plenty of precipitation. Pengzhou consists of 60% mountains, 10% rivers and 30% basin, forming the unique geographical feature. The summit elevation in the region reaches 4814 meters, while the lowest elevation reaches 489 meters. The geographical varieties provide the opportunities of growing the traditional Chinese medical herbs, which have 1136 kinds in total. Pengzhou has been approved as the national base of the Chinese traditional medical herbs. The "Aoping" Brand Rhizome chuanxiong is well known both home and abroad. (The National Industry and Commerce Administration approved the "Aoping" Brand in Oct. 2003.)

According to "Benjing", Rhizome chuanxiong is a kind of herbaceous herbs, of which the stalk is used as medicine. The stalk’s section is white, with fragrant smell, which is effective in relieving pain, sedating, stimulating the circulation of the blood, causing the joints relax, and anaesthetizing. Rhizome chuanxiong, which is considered as the important medicine in treating heart and blood vessel diseases, has great medical and economic values.

The leaves and stalk can be used as food, of which the stalk is the best choice in cooking. The values are bound to be reinforced with the people’s living standards rising. The following is the brief introduction of our plan and the development program:

I. The Present Situation:
The area for growing "Aoping" Rhizome rhizome chuanxiong, has reached 50,000 mu, and the annual product has reached 12,000—124,000 tons, accounting for half of the national output. Pengzhou was conferred the title of "The Hometown of Rhizome Chuanxiong" by the Sichuan Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Administration in 2001. In June 2002, "Aoping Rhizome Chuanxiong Association" was established. So far, the association has 18 membership units, 1200 members. The network for growing and selling has also set up. Meanwhile Pengzhou spreads the advanced green medical herb planting technology of GAP. In 2002, Pengzhou was confirmed as the agricultural produce base for planting free-pollution agricultural produce. On Feb.26, 2006, Aoping was determined as the base for planting rhizome chuanxiong by the National Food and Medicine Supervising and Management Administration. On March 25, Chengdu Chinese Traditional Medical University and Pengzhou Municipal Government signed the agreement to determine Aoping as the experimental base, so as to instruct the planting skills.

II. Program:
Since the traditional Chinese medicine pushes into the global market, how to improve the products, how to set up beneficial industry, how to establish a good brand, how to make it popular and increase the economical values have become our main concerns. Our strategies are as the following:

1. Enhance the advertisement. The municipal government and committee will use numerous channels to introduce the product to the medical purchasers and industries, making more people know our product and pushing the product into the international markets.
2. Ensure the quality: Steadily expand the area for planting rhizome chuanxiong strictly following the standard of GAP, and increase the individual output and improve the quality, fulfill the quality atlas of the product, strictly manage the market, forbidden the selling highly poisoned and polluted products.


3. Promote the development of the industry: Set up the market for selling and purchasing the product, take advantage of "Aoping" brand to instruct the farmers the skills of planting and processing, strictly control the quality of planting, selling, purchasing, and packing, so as to develop the industry.


4. Solicit more processing industries: Solicit the processing industries especially the delicate and further processing industries to make the planting and processing industrialized. With our Chinese traditional medicine pushing into the global market, the medical effect of rhizome chuanxiong is becoming more and more distinctive. Rhizome chuanxiong originates in Sichuan, and is also the major point for the traditional Chinese medical herb planting in Sichuan. We will do our best to provide our best service for the investors, wholeheartedly support the further development, making the "Aoping" brand popular and pushing the local economy forward.


5. Make scientific research and further development: We will fully take advantage of the natural medical resource to make more contributions to the humankind, making a more prosperous future for rhizome chuanxiong product. At present, the related scientific researching units are cooperating with Sichuan University, Chengdu Chinese Traditional Medical University and other institutions home and abroad to make researches on the technology of compound abstracting of the effective elements, pharmacology, medical effect and so on, attempting to make more progress.
